“If You Could Hie to Kolob” (hie, to hasten) is a Latter-day Saint hymn that was written by the early Mormon W. W. Phelps. The music is taken from a well-known folk tune known as “Dives and Lazarus”. It was originally published in 1842 in Times and Seasons and is hymn number 284 in the 1985 hymnal for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The hymn makes only a single reference to Kolob, in the first line of the hymn (from which the hymn’s title is derived).

We don't need to be perfect, just try as hard as we can to live the Gospel. Difficult but worth it.

Beautiful song. But the whole concept of a star (or planet, LDS people can't seem to agree on which it is, which I think is very curious) being closest to the throne of God is pretty ridiculous. Not to mention, nobody knows where it is. Also why does God need to be from or located near a celestial body. It is preposterous. But it is way cooler than just saying he lives everywhere, imho.

I am a member of the church and would gladly and proud to say that i belong to it… One thing for sure whether or not you are a member of His church – -once you felt the calmness and peace of this song… please know, it is the spirit that tells you His goodness and that there is truth behind that needs to be search by yourself. It is not because of the goodness of the composition of the song itself only. He wants you to find what the real happiness is and the truthfulness of His gospel designed for all of us.Please be open to yourself and ponder about it….Peace to all of you!
