Bandtraxs are delighted to release this new original work co written by UK blue-eyed soul performer Johnny Boy Pryers and established UK songwriter Carl Dixon called ‘You ain’t changed’. This collaboration has finally resulted in a truly authentic sounding blue-eyed soul masterpiece with elements of 60s Detroit soul and Carolina beach music. Carl and Johnny had communicated via email in 2007 with a view to someday working together musically and on meeting face to face at the 2015 Butlin’s soul weekender, they decided to come up with an idea for a new song and this is the fruits of their labour. ‘You ain’t changed’ has bass, guitars and horns recorded in Nashville and drums from Detroit featuring Drew Schultz. Johnny’s vocals were recorded in Rochdale at Lisa Stansfield’s ‘Gracieland’ studios. Hoping for a danceable number with loads of hooks, the song has had some excellent feedback from social media sites recognising just that.

“Born in Bolton, Johnny was destined for a life in music. Taking early influences from his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, Johnny was surrounded from a very early age by a wide variety of music from Northern Soul, Tamla Motown, Mod, Punk, Rock and Roll. Johnny first learned of his love for being on stage as a teenager when he and friends formed their first band ‘The Shakers’ in which he played bass guitar and helped out with the vocals. Over the years Johnny has performed alongside some very well respected artists such as Tommy Hunt, Dean Parrish, PP Arnold, La La Brookes, P.J. Proby, Marvin Ruffin, The Flirtations, Eddie Holman, Judy Street, Archie Bell, The Contours, The Velvelettes, Brenda Holloway, Prince Philip Mitchell, Kim Weston, Chris Clark, Martha Reeves and Diane Shaw.”

In the past Hull born Carl Dixon has co wrote and produced with celebrated Funk Brother guitarist, song writer and performer Dennis Coffey songs featuring Spyder Turner and Cherokee Pree in the ‘Motor City’ along with some other notable ‘Funk Brothers’ and session musicians back in 2008. ‘Tell me (crying over you)’ and ‘Glory Fleeting’ featuring Spyder Turner on lead vocals, ‘Suddenly there’s you’ featuring Pree on lead and ‘Detroit (city by the river)’ by Bandtraxs were all released successfully from that session and are available to purchase or stream. Later that same year Carl teamed up with Philly legend Bobby Eli where they co wrote, along with singer songwriter Chiquita Green, four new songs in his ‘Grooveyard’ studio. The two releases from that session were ‘There I go falling in love again’ by Chiquita and ‘Soul Recession’ by legendary Salsoul recording harmony group ‘Double Exposure’ famous for such releases as ’My love is free’, ‘Ten percent’ and ‘Every man’. In addition, Carl also has a co write with UK soul singer Diane Shaw and producer Andy Birkinshaw called ‘Good Lovin Man’ which is on her album ‘Love, Life and Strings’. Carl and The Delgonives are also proud to have co produced and sang on Robert and Mike Paladino’s ‘Soul Girl’ parts 1 & 2 in 2015. This song is a derivative of ‘The Four Winds’ original ‘Playgirl’ released in 1963. Carl and Robert created this masterpiece remotely via Internet collaboration.

The rarest incarnation of this timeless song!

Classic, classic Chicago creation by Carl Davis’s right hand man Gerald Sims. Originally recorded of course by The Radiants, but later pixck up by so many Soul acts recognizing it as an all time great hook-line. The ideal platform for any aspiring Soul vocal group to spring from.

This version in our experience is the hardest to acquire, from the Abe Epstein machine housed inside the vibrant San Antoni Soul Music movement of the mid 60’s. Relerased on Texas’s most civet “Soul” label, Dynamic records and we can assure you #110 is one of the most challenging numbers to acqyuire,

So get ready for another Abe-enabled vocal-group delight, as Tex-Mex Soul doers Chicago. The raw enthusiasm, those tight male harmonies sailing over Mexican influence horns. The gentle cracking of the leads emotional voice, adds a mountain to this great song.

If you appreciate raw, local, accomplish cover version in their rarest form .. do not pass by.
Condition Report
Two clean labels, a few very mild age-spots. Vinyl is superbly clean strong Ex + just a few mild sleeve contact hairlines. Plays perfect.

By 1978 Oscar Richardson Jr., aka Flame N’ King was a veteran of the New York Soul scene releasing at least 4 45’s in the 60’s. All now wanted discs aimed at the Harlem dance scene. All powerful blends of R&B/Funk and Soul, Flame N’ started to enjoy local success. So it was no surprise that after a quiet time during the early 70’s he eventually came up with a recording for the burgeoning New York disco explosion.

“Ain’t Nobody Jivein’ ( Get up Get Down )” was aimed at the burgeoning club scene, carrying almost every Disco/Funk cliche. Which was great for New York, even better for France. But a shade too funky for the Northern soul scene. But the flipside was perfect for the British rare-soul scene. Manchster’s Ritz / Blackpool Mecca had early carved the way for solid wah-wah driven dance tunes.

But this one had something extra. The lengthy honkin’ horn intro, was met by a hulk of a vocal; Oscar Richardson boomed out the uplifting lyrics and it was an instant Northern Soul hit. But I rember all too well that this 12 month old release, was a low run and was unavailable almost immediately to British dealers and the demand rocketed. So much so it received a UK release through RCA on the GrAPEVINE LAEL.

Here’s a listing for those collectors / DJ’s who prefer to see first press original revolve on their turntables..

Both sides are solid dance tunes, one a Northern Soul classic the other a Soul/Funk/Disco giant.

NOTE there is a brief minuscule sizzlin’ on the A-side lead in NOT affecting the start of play. Listen to the soundfile provided. Flipside plays flawless throughout.

Julia Lee (October 31, 1902 — December 8, 1958)[2] was an American blues and dirty blues musician.
Born in Boonville, Missouri, United States, Lee was raised in Kansas City, and began her musical career around 1920, singing and playing piano in her brother George Lee’s band, which for a time also included Charlie Parker. She first recorded on the Merritt record labelin 1927 with Jesse Stone as pianist and arranger, and launched a solo career in 1935.
In 1944 she secured a recording contract with Capitol Records, and a string of R&B hitsfollowed, including “Gotta Gimme Whatcha Got” (#3 R&B, 1946), “Snatch and Grab It” (#1 R&B for 12 weeks, 1947, selling over 500,000 copies), “King Size Papa” (#1 R&B for 9 weeks, 1948), “I Didn’t Like It The First Time (The Spinach Song)” (#4 R&B, 1949), and “My Man Stands Out”.
As these titles suggest, she became best known for her trademark double entendresongs, or, as she once said, “the songs my mother taught me not to sing”. The recordswere credited to ‘Julia Lee and Her Boy Friends’, her session musicians including Jay McShann, Vic Dickenson, Benny Carter, Red Norvo, Nappy Lamare, and Red Nichols.
She was married to Frank Duncan, a star catcher and manager of the Negro National League’s Kansas City Monarchs. He, like Julia, was a native of Kansas City.
Although her hits dried up after 1949, she continued as one of the most popular performers in Kansas City until her death in San Diego, California, at the age of 56, from a heart attack.

The yellow Spurtlegurtles have fun singing “Boom, Boom, Ain’t It Great to be Crazy”. From Wee Sing in Sillyville

Over 35 years ago, two music educators published a children’s songbook and called it Wee Sing. More than 65 million books, audios, live-action videos and apps later, Wee Sing is recognized as one of the world’s most cherished children’s brands – and a leader in preschool learning through music.

Pam Beall and Susan Nipp created that first songbook in 1977 because they were passionate about enriching the lives of kids through music and the performing arts. They knew that music stimulates cognitive, physical, and social development of young children. And through songs, chants, movement, and rhythm, they gain the readiness skills of language, coordination, auditory discrimination, body awareness, rhythmic proficiency, and self-confidence. But in the big picture, kids are just having fun!

We Sing in Sillyville: Come along on a surprise journey with Lauri, Scott, and Barney the dog as they magically disappear into the pages of their coloring book. Meet Sillywhim, who welcomes them to the wacky world of Sillyville where anything can happen—as long as it’s fun. But there’s a problem here: The yellow Spurtlegurgles don’t like the green Jingleheimers, while the red Bitty Booties won’t talk to the blue Twirlypops. Now it’s up to Laurie and Scott to teach them the true meaning of friendship, no matter what color they are.
