Happy 2019 everybody.

I am so ecstatic to share my first project from ‘The Artist Tribute Series’.
Mame Khan Sahab is my favourite folk artists and working on this song was always on my wish list.

I have used a couple of excerpts from Sona Mohapatra’s single titled, ‘Tori Surat’ (from the album ‘Laal Peeli Mastani’). And I am a huge fangirl of Sona Ji and Ram Sampath Sir.
Also, when I heard ‘Chaudhary’ (MTV Coke Studio Season 2; Amit Trivedi), I fell in love with the Amit Trivedi Sir’s arrangement.

I tried recreating this song in my own special way and if you realise, it sounds no where close to the original because the arrangement is entirely different and we’ve tried bringing to you a fresh sound.

This song made me feel closer to my roots (yes, I belong to Rajasthan) and I hope that you all enjoy it and think of eating some ‘daal baatis’ haha.

Give this video a big fat thumbs up if you liked it and share it wide. Also, subscribe to my channel; some amazing content is on your way!

Rajasthani folk music attracts every listener with its sensuous rhythm! It is immensely popular and appreciated worldwide. One of the main reasons for that is their unique primitive-looking musical instruments!
One of such popular instruments is ‘ Ravanahatha’ . Ravanahatha is an ancient, bowed, stringed musical instrument. It has been suggested as an ancestor of Violin.
Here is an old Rajasthani folk musician at Amer fort near Jaipur playing Ravanhatha.

Amer Fort (Hindi: अमेर किला) is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer is a town with an area of 4 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi) located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Located high on a hill, it is the principal tourist attraction in Jaipur. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake, which is the main source of water for the Amer Palace.

Musical instruments of Rajasthan create extraordinary unique music that transports us to another realm of grace and spirit. Rajasthani people use several musical instruments in Rajasthan to express their emotions. Generally, musicians made these Rajasthan musical instruments. Folk dance and music in Rajasthan brings the desert alive.
Traditional music includes songs, which lyrically describes chores, especially centered on water and wells, both of which are an integral part of Rajasthan’s desert culture. Other songs, played by various castes, normally begin with the alap, which sets the tune and is followed by a recital of a couplet (dooba). Epic ballads tell of heroes like Devnarayan Bhagwan,  Gogaji,  Ramdeoji, Pabuji and Tejaji. The celebration of changing seasons is also very central to folk music of Rajasthan. Celebration of the coming of the Monsoons or the harvest season are central to most traditional folk songs. Songs also revolve around daily activities of the local people. Every day common themes are the center of traditional Rajasthani folk music.
